With a broken-heart emoji, Ax-Caliber, the Lakeland restaurant that allowed patrons to throw axes among other activities, announced Tuesday that it would shut its doors for good on July 27.

Ax-Caliber in Lakeland, at 204 E. Orange St., has been open for just short of five years, since November of 2020.

The first axe-throwing venue in Polk County, it served coffee, beer and wine and had a kitchen, 14 ax-throwing lanes and virtual gun ranges.

In its Facebook post, the business stated it had “opened our doors with family, friends, community leaders, and big dreams. Seeing not only our vision come to life but God’s was a true blessing.

“Since then, we have had the privilege of proudly welcoming over 300,000 guests. It’s been an amazing ride filled with blessings, laughter, competition, shared meals, new friendships and unforgettable memories.”

It said the closing was due to “current circumstances completely out of our control,” and added, “This decision… was not made lightly.”
