An “insurance village” opened at the RP Funding Center today to connect insurance company representatives with property owners who need help filing claims related to Hurricane Milton.
It will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice at the center, 701 West Lime St. The representatives there will discuss only insurance claims, not other post-storm benefits.
Policyholders should bring as much documentation as possible, including:
- A driver’s license or other form of identification, such as a passport or state-issued ID
- Insurance cards and insurance policy information/documentation
- Pictures or documentation of the property being claimed as a loss resulting from Hurricane Helene and/or Hurricane Milton
- Repair estimates
- Any additional insurance-related information that is readily accessible

The Lakeland village is one of four being opened by the Florida Department of Financial Services. Others are in Plant City, Clearwater and Bradenton.
The state has not yet released a list of which companies will be represented in Lakeland. When it does, the list will be available on this page under the heading “Hurricanes Helene/Milton Insurance Villages.” That page currently lists 21 insurance companies represented at the Bradenton site, which was the first to open.
The Florida Department of Financial Services has issued a guide to post-disaster insurance claims that can be downloaded here.
